Polyisocyanurate technology
High-performance materials can support improvements to help your products stay ahead of the competition. Polyisocyanurate foam (PIR) is a good example.
Our innovations in PIR are delivering high-performance thermal insulation. That means, for example, that panels can be thin while still delivering excellent levels of insulation. PIR is versatile for use in small spaces - as well as in large ones which require custom solutions. While typically provided in pre-fabricated shapes, it is also available in a form that can be poured into cavities where it sets to create a seal which is both air-tight and water-resistant.
What is PIR?
PIR is a modified Polyurethane which is manufactured via a chemical reaction that creates a highly cross-linked foamed plastic. The resulting material is lightweight, robust and rigid.
Where is PIR used?
When you need all-around performance to keep products or environments at stable temperatures, PIR is a great choice. For structures such as cold storage buildings, food processing plants and pharmaceutical facilities, panels with PIR cores offer critical temperature control and a barrier to moisture and vapours. The comfort of people working in these environments is just as important as the building insulation. Additional PIR core panel applications include permanent or temporary housing units with a small footprint, and transportation applications for insulated trailers. PIR panels are also used in cold chain logistics applications such as parcel and pallet shippers.
What is the environmental impact of PIR, can it be recycled?
Although PIR cannot currently be recycled, we are on a journey to facilitate a circular economy of materials and are actively supporting pilots for reuse of discarded PIR.
